What Does “SIM Not Provisioned” Mean on an eSIM?

“SIM not provisioned” usually means the phone can see an eSIM profile, but the carrier or activation system has not authorized it for service. It is different from a QR code that will not scan and from ordinary weak coverage. Keep the profile installed while you check the selected line, activation status, and account assignment. co:sim support can match an order to the profile without asking you to reinstall blindly.

#What causes the message?

A carrier may not have completed activation, the profile may belong to another order, the line may be disabled, or the phone may be locked to a different network. Verizon and AT&T activation instructions show why carrier-side assignment matters even when a QR download succeeded. A travel eSIM can also display the message when its supported destination or network is unavailable.

#What can you try without risking the profile?

Connect to Wi-Fi, restart once, enable the intended eSIM line, and confirm it is the mobile-data line. Check the plan destination and roaming requirement, then wait for registration. Avoid deleting the profile or scanning the same QR repeatedly; a one-time travel code may not be reusable. Record the exact message, device model, ICCID/EID, and co:sim order email before contacting support.

#When should support take over?

Escalate when the message survives a restart and correct line selection, or when the provider confirms that the plan should be active. Send the order reference and redacted diagnostics through the official support channel. Support can verify provisioning and network eligibility; a random APN edit or factory reset cannot fix a missing carrier-side assignment.

#How is provisioning different from installing a QR code?

Scanning a QR code downloads or adds an eSIM profile to the device. Provisioning is the carrier-side assignment and authorization that lets the profile use service. A successful download therefore does not prove that the carrier has completed its side of the process. The phrase “SIM not provisioned” points toward that authorization relationship, although the exact wording and cause vary by phone and carrier. Keep a record of when the QR was installed, the device model, and the order reference. Do not assume the same code can be used repeatedly while the carrier-side state is unresolved.

#Which checks can you perform without deleting the profile?

Connect to Wi-Fi, restart once, and inspect the intended eSIM line in Settings. Confirm that it is enabled and selected for mobile data, then check the plan's supported destination and roaming requirement. A carrier-locked phone or unsupported network can also block service, so note the exact message and displayed operator. If the line appears on the phone but cannot register, the next useful step is a support check of assignment and eligibility, not a factory reset. co:sim support can use the order details and appropriate identifiers to investigate.

#What details help support resolve the case?

Send the order reference, device model, operating-system version, destination, exact error text, and whether the profile appears in SIM settings. An ICCID or EID may be requested to identify the relevant profile or device, but do not post those values publicly. Mention whether the problem began during installation or after a previously working connection. Preserve the current profile until support confirms a replacement path; deleting it may remove a one-time installation. Carrier activation guides from Verizon and AT&T show why assignment matters independently of a QR download.

#FAQ

#Is “SIM not provisioned” the same as “no service”?

No. “No service” is the device's current registration result and may reflect poor coverage, wrong network selection, disabled roaming, or a line that is off. “SIM not provisioned” points more specifically toward authorization or assignment of the SIM profile, although device wording varies. The two messages can appear together, and an installed eSIM is not proof that the carrier has approved it for service. Check the intended line, supported destination, roaming requirements, and exact displayed message. The co:sim plan page identifies the relevant network and setup rules; that information helps support distinguish a local settings issue from a provider-side one. Do not erase the profile to test the difference. Keep the order reference and any requested ICCID or EID ready for an official support conversation.

#Should I delete the eSIM and scan the QR code again?

Not as an initial fix. Deleting removes the phone's local copy of the profile and may make a one-time travel activation code unusable, while leaving the carrier-side provisioning problem untouched. First connect to Wi-Fi, restart once, confirm that the correct eSIM line is enabled and selected for mobile data, and check the plan's destination and roaming instructions. Record the exact error, device model, and order reference. If the line was previously working, tell support when the failure began; that history can change the diagnosis. co:sim support can verify whether the order and profile are assigned correctly and whether a replacement installation is possible. Reinstall only after the provider confirms the procedure for this specific order. Repeated scans without that confirmation may add confusion and delay the real fix.

#What information should I send to support?

Start with the order reference, your device model, current country, operating-system version, and the exact wording of the alert. Explain whether the eSIM profile is visible in Settings, whether it ever connected, and which mobile-data line is selected. Support may request the profile's ICCID or the device's EID; these are different identifiers, so copy the field that is actually requested. Share them through an official support channel rather than a public forum. Do not send your account password, activation QR code, or unrelated personal identifiers. A screenshot can help if you redact unnecessary details. co:sim can compare the order with the profile and supported network, then say whether the next step is a settings change, a carrier-side correction, or a confirmed replacement. That is safer than a factory reset or blind deletion.
