For Bologna Airport to the city, start with Marconi Express if your destination is Bologna Centrale, compare the airport's listed bus routes for your address, and request a taxi quote if a direct ride solves luggage or access problems. Check service notices before buying: a replacement bus changes the journey substantially. co:sim mobile data can help you check the change, but it does not pay the fare.
The first decision is where you actually need to finish. Bologna Airport describes Marconi Express as the link to Bologna Centrale, the main rail station. Reaching that station is not the same as reaching every hotel in the old town. Put your accommodation address beside the transport route before comparing price or advertised travel time.
| Option | Best reason to investigate it | Main check |
|---|---|---|
| Marconi Express | You want Bologna Centrale or an onward train | Live operating mode and correct airport fare |
| Airport-listed bus | The route fits your destination | Day or night endpoint and onward connection |
| Taxi | You need a direct journey with your group or luggage | Full quote and suitable vehicle |
| co:sim Italy data | You need route updates and messages | Compatible unlocked phone; no transport included |
Use the airport's rail guide and bus directory to compare the first two options. For connectivity, the live Italy data-plan page shows the current products. Keep your ticket and accommodation instructions available offline regardless of which connection you choose.

The operator's fare page lists a standard airport single at €12.80 and a return at €23.30. It also lists a €2.30 fare between Bologna Centrale and Lazzaretto. The Lazzaretto fare is not an airport ticket. Check the route and ticket conditions in the purchase flow rather than selecting the lowest number on the page.
Bologna Airport's normal-service guide gives a seven-minute train ride and operating hours of 05:40 to midnight. Those describe normal rail service, not the total time after landing and not the replacement-bus journey. Include baggage collection, the walk to the station, waiting and the final leg to your hotel when deciding what is practical.
For the airport station, follow signs to the terminal's first floor and the connecting walkway. At Bologna Centrale, access is on the Via Carracci side, according to the airport station instructions. Save those words in your trip notes if someone is meeting you. “At the station” leaves room for confusion when one person expects a different entrance.
The fare rules describe several ticket channels and eligible urban-bus integration for 75 minutes. Eligibility and validation details depend on the product and payment method. If you intend to continue by bus, read the conditions for the ticket you choose; do not assume a paper ticket, an online QR code and a contactless purchase behave identically.
A dated warning matters here. The operator's notice published on 25 September 2026 announces suspension from 3 to 6 October for vehicle overhaul and maintenance. For that announced replacement service, it gives approximately 35–40 minutes for the bus journey and departures roughly every 16–18 minutes. These are the notice's estimates, not a promise for another travel date or a guaranteed reopening time.
The same replacement-service notice places airport boarding at ground-floor arrivals, the Centrale stop on Via Carracci and the intermediate stop on Via Terracini at Lazzaretto. It says existing tickets remain usable and booking procedures and fares stay the same. Follow the current notice and staff directions; the normal first-floor train-station instructions are not the replacement-bus boarding instructions.
If you have an onward train, recalculate the whole connection when a bus substitution appears. A ticket retaining its validity does not mean the seven-minute rail journey retains its duration. Allow for the road journey, waiting and finding your onward platform. If the margin looks fragile, investigate a later train or another transfer before assuming a booked connection is protected.
Recheck this notice before travel even if your date falls after the stated work period. A past notice is evidence of the specific disruption, not proof of today's operating state. This guide deliberately distinguishes normal service from that dated exception so you can use the correct information for your arrival.
The airport's bus directory lists Line Q as an airport–Ospedale Maggiore shuttle by day and an airport–railway-station service at Piazzale Medaglie d'Oro by night. It also lists Line 54 towards Villaggio Speranza. Those are different destinations; neither “airport bus” nor a remembered route number is enough to decide where you will arrive.
Check the current operator timetable linked by the airport for your date, direction and arrival hour. For a daytime Line Q journey, include any onward connection you need after Ospedale Maggiore. For a night journey, confirm that your intended departure actually runs and that the stop suits the final walk. Do not treat a daytime route description as an all-night direct station service.
This guide does not attach an unverified cheap fare or frequency to those buses. Compare the live ticket price and entire journey against Marconi Express and a taxi quote. A saving on the first leg can disappear if you need another ticket, a difficult transfer or a long walk with luggage. The useful comparison is airport door to accommodation door.

Request a quote when your group can share one vehicle, when your hotel is inconvenient for the rail route, or when luggage and access needs dominate the decision. State the exact address, passenger count and bags. Ask about any child-seat or accessible-vehicle requirement before confirming. Without a verified current tariff for that exact journey, a generic fixed taxi price would be misleading.
Save the hotel address, ticket, chosen boarding point and a fallback route before leaving arrivals. With co:sim, check your phone's eSIM compatibility and unlock status, then compare the Italy plan's data allowance and validity. An eSIM is an embedded SIM; a data-only plan provides internet access, not a local number, ordinary voice calls or SMS.
The co:sim account dashboard is available for managing your plan. Data can help you open a service notice or message your host, but coverage varies and a phone can run out of battery. A downloaded booking confirmation is useful, while the ticket issuer's rules determine what you must actually present. Keep a separate way to handle essential conventional telephone calls.

The seven-minute figure refers to the normal Marconi Express train ride to Bologna Centrale, as described by Bologna Airport. It is not a landing-to-hotel estimate. You still need to leave arrivals, reach the boarding point, wait for departure and finish the journey from the station. Your hotel may require another leg after Centrale, so compare the full address rather than a generic city-centre label.
A replacement bus changes the calculation. The dated October maintenance notice gives a substantially longer road journey for that specific suspension period. Recheck the operating mode before relying on the rail headline, particularly if you hold a separate onward train ticket. If you use co:sim for mobile data, it can help retrieve an updated notice, but it cannot guarantee a connection or make a bus follow the normal train timing.
For the suspension announced for 3–6 October 2026, the Marconi Express notice says that ticket costs and booking procedures remain the same and already purchased tickets can be used. That statement applies to the replacement service described in the notice. It is not a general promise that a Marconi Express ticket covers any city bus or any privately arranged transfer when something goes wrong.
Follow the notice's boarding instructions and verify the destination before getting on. During that replacement arrangement, airport boarding is at ground-floor arrivals rather than the normal train station reached from the first floor. Keep the ticket ready and allow extra time for the road journey. If a later disruption has different instructions, use its current notice or ask the operator rather than applying an old announcement to a new situation.
An app and an eSIM are not the only way to arrange a Marconi Express journey. The official fare page lists online purchases, ticket machines, the Roger app, shops and contactless access among its ticket channels. Choose a method whose conditions you understand and keep the correct ticket or payment device available. Mobile data can help with updates, but it is not a substitute for a valid fare.
If you need Italy connectivity, co:sim offers data-only plans for compatible unlocked phones. Check allowance, validity and other product details before purchase; existing roaming may already be enough. The plan does not include a local phone number, ordinary calls or SMS. Save your hotel address and essential ticket information offline, and carry a workable payment fallback so that a drained battery or unavailable connection does not leave you without an arrival plan.
Choose your transfer using the live operating notice and your hotel address; use co:sim if mobile data makes the rest of your Italy trip easier to manage.

Travel TipsTake the Keisei Skyliner if your hotel is in Ueno, Asakusa or north-east Tokyo: it reaches Nippori in as little as 36 minutes for ¥2,580. Take the Narita Express if you are staying near Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, Shibuya or Yokohama, because it runs straight there, and the ¥5,200 round-trip ticket brings each leg close to the Skyliner fare.
Travel TipsTake bus 86 if you are travelling light, land before mid-evening and are staying near Hoan Kiem Lake: it costs about 45,000 dong and takes 50 to 70 minutes. Take a Grab if there are two or more of you, you have big bags or you land late, because one car to the Old Quarter usually costs about 230,000 to 320,000 dong and drops you at the door.
Travel TipsTake the KLIA Ekspres if you are travelling alone or as a pair and your hotel is near KL Sentral or a rail line: it reaches KL Sentral in 28 minutes from Terminal 1 for RM55, less 10% if you buy online. Take a Grab if three or more of you are going to a hotel away from KL Sentral, because one car fare usually costs less than three train tickets and drops you at the door.
